Silvergate Plastics Awarded ISO 14001:2015 Certification
Silvergate Plastics, the UK’s largest independent manufacturer of polymer-specific colour masterbatch, has officially transitioned to the international environmental standard, ISO 14001:2015.
The announcement comes as pressure increases on the UK to minimise plastic waste by optimising environmentally responsible innovations in a national effort to eradicate all avoidable plastic waste by 2042.
Silvergate is amongst the first companies in the masterbatch industry to be awarded ISO 14001:2015, which certifies that the company’s Environmental Management System meets the requirements of this standard. These include the enhancement of the company’s environmental performance, fulfilment of compliance obligations and achievement of environmental objectives.
In order to develop and maintain a standard that could integrate with other management systems, reflect increasingly complex operating environments and enhance an organisation’s ability to address its environmental impact, the ISO 14001:2004 was revised to what is now the ISO 14001:2015. These new standards specify the need for continual, robust and wide ranging environmental management worldwide.
Through its continued commitment to lean manufacturing processes, Silvergate has implemented a number of initiatives that manage the efficient handling of waste throughout its production facility. These have been in place for a number of years but are continually reviewed in line with current best practices. Since 2014, the company has continued to operate in accordance with the Climate Change Agreement approved by the Government’s Environment Agency for the plastics sector.
The transition to the 2015 version has been led by Silvergate’s management team to ensure its environmental management system is aligned with the strategic direction of the business. Commenting on this achievement, managing director Sandy Bergeson, said:
“As a company committed to delivering a fast, efficient and reliable service, we at Silvergate are also conscious of our impact on the environment. Being awarded the transition to ISO 14001:2015 demonstrates our ability to continually improve our environmental performance, reduce waste and preserve natural resources. To ensure our team members throughout the company are fully engaged, we have ensured our environmentally responsible principles are aligned with our operating practices and can therefore be managed effectively within our processes.”
In addition to the ISO 14001:2015 standard, Silvergate’s operations, product formulations and manufacturing facilities have also successfully transitioned to the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System standards. Silvergate Plastics provides comprehensive regulatory support to its customers and complies fully with legislation and standards associated with the plastics industry.
