Manufacturers Suffer, as Prices of TIO2 Continue to Rise
Titanium dioxide is the most widely used white pigment because of its brightness and very high refractive index. Approximately 4 million tons of pigmentary TiO2 are consumed annually worldwide, the majority of which is used to provide whiteness and opacity in the manufacture of plastics. Recent years have seen the pigment suffer a significant price rise affecting Plastics Manufacturers Worldwide. Commeting, Chris Spooner of Silvergate Plastics, said:
"I am staggered at the magnitude and frequency of increases. The expectation is that this trend will continue throughout 2012. The cost to manufacture the product is going up rapidly, so this will be reflected in further TiO2 pigment price increases."
